More than two decades ago, Marty McSorley paid around $600,000 for an aging Spanish Colonial-style home resting along the Hermosa Beach Strand. The former L.A. Kings and San Jose Sharks hockey player and his wife Leanne Schuster, a onetime professional beach volleyball player, subsequently razed the structure; they then enlisted architect Grant Kirkpatrick and builder Dave Baldwin to create a stunning contemporary beach house. Now, after spending years in their custom crib, the couple have decided to sell. Newly on the market, their house is asking a whopping $22.9 million.

An ocean-view deck borders the luxe bath, which is equipped with dual vanities, a soaking tub and large frameless shower. Down on the basement level, a massive entertaining space hosts a kitchenette and sliding glass doors leading to a patio, as well as a 670-bottle wine cellar and an office space. McSorley, 58, is an Ontario-born former pro hockey player probably best remembered for hitting fellow enforcer Donald Brashear in the head with his stick in the final minutes of a Boston Bruins-Vancouver Canucks game. Brashear lost consciousness and suffered a Grade-3 concussion, which led to McSorley’s assault conviction, one-year suspension and eventual retirement from the NHL.
