A new business in Bedford Township is open and ready to bring the sweet tastes of Italy and more to locals.

32 Below, located at 6648 Lewis Avenue in Temperance, officially opened its doors earlier this month, which followed a short soft opening during the preceding weeks. 32 Below specializes in gelato, an Italian-style dessert similar to ice cream, but made with more milk than cream, as well as various baked sweet treats.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting was attended by Bedford Township Supervisor Paul Pirrone, Bedford Treasurer Krista Jandasek, and Monroe County District 8 Commissioner Greg Moore, Jr.

Owners Frank and Alia Angel said that opening the shop represents the realization of a longtime dream for the couple.

“This place is (Alia’s) dream,” Frank Angel said. “We’ve been waiting for the kids to grow up to have less responsibilities to start a business.”

Frank Angel said that featuring gelato instead of ice cream gives customers an alternative to traditional ice cream.

“The texture is different, the taste is different, and everything is (created) in-house here, so the flavors here, you won’t find anywhere else,” he said. “That’s what makes us exclusive.”

He also explained that he first learned to make gelato while living in Italy over 20 years ago.

“This is very authentic,” he said.

Featured gelato flavors are displayed in a freezer case with a glass window, and some of the flavors offered during the grand opening included chocolate chip mint, pistachio almond, and peach.

As for the baked goods, Alia said she enjoys baking and plans to offer a steady rotation of new items based on what customers ask for and treats that match the season. Currently, she is enjoying a new oven and using it to bake a variety of pies.

“You name, I bake it,” Alia Angel said. “That’s exactly how it is going to be. It’s very special, and it’s very authentic.”

Frank Angel said that the shop also staffs a barista who makes various coffee drinks, as well as bubble teas. For those who crave a savory homemade snack, the shop offers freshly made hummus.

Frank Angel explained that their wide selection of items comes from listening to what the community wants in terms of quick eats, and this gives them a “one-stop shop” for an authentic food experience.

“So far, people are loving us and loving the business, and that’s what’s important,” he said. “We do our best to make everyone satisfied.”

Pirrone agreed that the Angels have much to offer to Bedford residents with both food and friendliness.

“They are amazing people who bring joy not only with their amazing gelato, but also with their friendly service,” Pirrone said. “I am so excited for them to thrive in our community.”

Alia Angel agreed that community support has been excellent, and she offered a heartfelt message to Bedford residents.

“I just want to say to the community – thank you so much. We are very, very grateful.”
